Very nice notes app
I have been using Paper for years (since v2). The app had ups and downs but it is now a very nice product. I use Paper every day and it helped me get rid of any piece of paper on my desk. Use it with a pen and walk around with hundreds of pages inside your iPad. Also, the support team is quite responsive and helpful when you have issues and suggestions. Strongly recommended!

and now it's asking me to pay.

Update: I appreciate the developer coming back with an offer for a legacy version that has a few tools available.
I understand you have to make a living wage and a subscription model makes more sense, but a heads up for your old customers couldn't have hurt.
That is what Goodnotes (which I use daily) has done for the upgrade from GoodNotes 4 to 5, and when further versions are available, I’ll gladly pay for them, just as much as I would pay for my active subscription for Day One, which is going on two years now.
Also it was always just known as paper, not paper essentials which I presume you added later to segregate from the paid “pro” version when it launched.
My toddler likes to draw and paint on my iPad and I thought it’s better she uses a separate program to my Procreate so my drawings don’t get messed up. I remembered Paper as I did like the simple and intuitive interface that I grew out of when it just couldn’t do more complex note taking.
Things might have changed now but I couldn’t really tell from the brief interaction with the new version when I downloaded it.

We’re happy to help you with establishing Legacy Status. This will give you access to the Diagram, Cut, and Fill tools for free. Can you send us your Diagnostic Report? Tap on the Settings icon top right then “Support”. On the next screen, tap on “Send Diagnostic Report”. An email window will pop up. Please add “Requesting Legacy Status” to the subject line. Once we’ve received your Diagnostic Report, we’ll send you a link to enable Legacy status on your device. Thank you for your patience.
